Recipe: Applesauce – smooth

September 14, 2020 | Recipes

Innkeeper Bonnie says, “I learned this recipe from my mother-in-law. My family always enjoyed the “taste testing” time of making applesauce as we all had multiple tastes to determine how much sugar and cinnamon taste good to us! “

You can set aside 1 cup amounts of UNSWEETENED applesauce to use in cookie recipe posted in early July 2019 called: Crunch Top Applesauce Bars.

Applesauce – smooth – freeze

  • Apples
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Hand grinder
  • Dutch oven or large pot
  • Bowls to cool applesauce in
  • Containers to put in freezer

Wash apples, quarter, cut out core and seeds.

Fill dutch oven or pot with apples and a small amount of water.

Cook on medium heat until apples are soft. Stir apples to keep from sticking on the bottom. Rotate apples from the bottom to the top.

You may need to add a little water.

When all apples are mushy, put them through the grinder.

Add sugar to apples to meet your taste. This can range from ¼ cup to 1 cup depending on apples and size of bowl the sauce is in.

Cinnamon can also be added if you want.

If you plan to freeze the applesauce, put it in the containers and cool. When cool, put into the freezer.
