Signs of Fall

October 1, 2019 | Blog, News & Updates

Like it or not, the seasons are changing!  There definitely is a difference in the weather.  We went from hot and humid, to chilly, and this week two very humid days leading up to lower temperatures and rain soon to come.  Is this our “Indian Summer”?

In the colonies, fall means Oktoberfest (among other things).  So we begin to get out pumpkins, mums, gourds, dried corn stalks, Indian Corn, and any other fall decoration you might have.  Businesses in the outer villages prepare for the annual Scarecrow Trail.  You can pick up a map of the participating businesses from the Visitor Center in Amana, and then enjoy a leisurely drive through Middle Amana, High Amana, West Amana, South Amana, and Homestead as you search out the scarecrows!   Each will be unique and will hopefully hold up in the rainy weather yet to come!

Another sign of Fall, is the grapes are ready to be picked!  We have a wonderful grapevine which always produces plenty of grapes.  This year the bees and wasps were getting to the grapes until Diane and I went out to ‘rob’ them of their sweet treat!

Below are a few pictures of when I put together our scarecrow – Zuber at Bat!      Also are some pictures of picking grapes!
