Zuber's breakfast table

I am going to add a new category to my blog posts that focuses on Frequently Asked Questions about our B & B or about B & Bs in general.  We are excited to be having so many ‘First time’ at a B&B guests, that I decided to offer some information up front to help […]

Zuber's Homestead Hotel

We are excited to have our new website up and running!  It has been several months in the transition from the old site to this new one, but now we are settling into this new site. I invite you to take a few minutes to go through this new site and see the changes.  Over […]

Inside of woolen mill

In my last post I asked if you had ever noticed that the village of Homestead is the only village in the 7 colonies that does not have the name of Amana in the village name?  The reason for that is because the village of Homestead was already established before the Amana people came to […]

I am excited to share about a new event we’re having at Zuber’s!  As we are in the midst of a week of WINTER weather – in a few weeks hopefully you’ll be looking for something to go do to “get away from it all”.  We have just the thing to do for a weekend!  […]

The Sesquicentennial cookbook

Where do you get your recipes from? This is a question that we are often asked, along with – “Will you share your recipe?”  As we begin a new year, I have selected a new ‘batch’ of recipes to share with you on the website. There are 3 staff members that cook breakfast at Zuber’s.  […]

Tannenbaum trees decorated in blue and white

Thousands of people walked through the Tannenbaum forest this year.  I was able to work 2 different shifts and got to greet many people as they returned to the forest as part of a family tradition, and to welcome people as they came to enjoy the Tannenbaum forest for the first time. The forest […]

Tannenbaum trees

It is amazing how much of our life is guided by a calendar!  Days we work, days off, birthdays, anniversaries, appointments, vacations, holidays, etc!  As part of a tourism community, we have all of these personal dates to keep track of, in addition to keeping track of how busy we are with guests and also […]

side front of Zubers with fall decor

I love the changing seasons in Iowa!  Sometimes they change gradually and sometimes it happens way too fast!  This year we had summer – hot, hot weather, then LOTS of rain, and now the leaves are changing and snowflakes have already been floating around in the air! For me, each change of seasons is exciting.  […]

Oktoberfest banner

Do you know what “Schnitzelbank” is?  For one thing, it is the theme for this year’s Oktoberfest parade: “A Tribute to Schnitzelbank”.  Still no clue? Come to see the parade to enjoy the fun! Schnitzelbank is a singing game.  There is a poster and a pointer to be used by the person directing the game.  […]

Welcome to Our Blog

Thank you for checking out our blog at Zuber’s Homestead Hotel! As owners we have the daily pleasure of visiting with our guests. Often we are sitting in our Wagon Wheel Room and have our conversation over a cup of coffee (or tea)!

Our blog will be a reflection of those conversations. We often share stories about Zuber’s Homestead Hotel and the history of this wonderful place! We also share information about events and happenings in the Amana Colonies.

We invite you to enjoy these stories by reading our blog. Feel free to ask us questions and we’ll do our best to give you an answer. So sit down, grab your cup of coffee (or tea) relax, and share in our stories.

We look forward to the day that you’ll come and experience Zuber’s Homestead Hotel, and the Amana Colonies for yourself!
